Knife Basics
I can not stress enough the value of a good knife. I carry at least one with me at all times, usually I have 2 or 3 with me. While deployed to Afghanistan I had a fixed blade SOG Team Leader and a Cold Steel AK47 on my body armor and a Kabar TDI on my belt at all times, as well as one or two folding pocket knives. Remember that knives are usually designed for a particular purpose. I never used my SOG as a “utility knife” as it was only for self-defense, I wanted to be sure it was always razor-sharp and in perfect condition. When I needed to open an MRE or a case of water I would use one of my pocket knives. Keeping your knives sharp, dry, and rust free is very important. Take care of your knives and they will take care of you.
